Marc L. Boom, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.H.E. | Dr. Marc Boom has been the president and CEO of Houston Methodist since 2012. Houston Methodist is a hospital system with more than 2,700 beds and over 34,000 employees. Its flagship, Houston Methodist Hospital, has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as an Honor Roll hospital nine times and the No. 1 hospital in Texas for 14 years in a row.

The system includes an academic medical center, a world-renowned research institute, seven community hospitals and a continuing care hospital, two large physician organizations and more than 50 GME programs. Houston Methodist is affiliated with several academic institutions including Weill Cornell Medical College, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Texas A&M University and Rice University. 

Dr. Boom holds a bachelor’s degree in biology with high honors from The University of Texas at Austin, an M.D. with high honors from Baylor College of Medicine, and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and fellowships in geriatric medicine and general medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine and maintains a part-time clinical practice.

In 2020, Dr. Boom emerged as a national leader in the efforts to educate the public about COVID-19 and the need for vaccines, leading the way as the first hospital system CEO in the country to mandate vaccines for employees and physicians.
